“Now, Helen of Troy, they say, launched a thousand ships
With the short of her skirt and the shape of her lips
And when that old bard lay the blame at her face
For the rape of a nation
Wrong time, Wrong place
Helen simply whispered, “history’s our test
Look between the lines, girls, Read beneath the text.””—Eve’s Mouth, Alix Olson (via queermccoy)
How are you teaching to Taran to spin and "die"? I'm wanting to teach Merlin and he knows spin and down but I'm thinking it might be easier to teach it all as one movement? I'm just trying to think it through before I start teaching it to him.
First we taught “spin” and lying on his side so that he could do those on command. That way we weren’t teaching unusual things for him to do in addition to the dying. Once he had those two down, we then just merged them. We used clickers and lots of treats to mark when he did it all right. For the moment we’re still having to lead him through the whole command (we call it “bang”) with a treat, but every so often he does it without the treat leading him. After he gets it on just the voice command, we’ll add the hand gun :) He’s super smart and he picked it up fairly quickly, but we’re still weaning him off us leading him through the motions. I’ll post a video of where he is now sometime soon. My iphone has so little storage at the moment, so I’ll figure something out :) I hope this helps!!
I have heard so many jokes about Han’s reaction to that outfit and Leia hanging on to it for ‘private performances’ or something like that. Ha ha, very funny. Except ew, no, that’s gross.
Because that outfit is not some sexy lingerie that Leia can happily don in the context of her healthy romantic relationship with Han Solo.
That outfit is the very means of her sexual subjugation by Jabba the Hutt. It is, canonically, in-universe, an instrument of sexual slavery. And given that Leia’s response to being subjugated in this way was to strangle the everliving fuck out of the bastard who made her wear that thing, I kind of doubt she’d ever be eager to put it back on.
Let’s also not forget that, canonically, Han Solo never saw her wear it. He was literally blind the entire time. In case it wasn’t clear enough that Leia wearing that outfit has fuck all to do with Han Solo and any consensual sexual relationship she may have with him.
So by extension, fanboys everywhere drooling over “Slave Leia” are seriously missing the point if they’re imagining themselves in Han’s place. Because lusting after a woman who has been forcibly sexually subjugated does not make you anything like Han Solo. It makes you Jabba the Hutt.
And Jabba is fucking disgusting.
You think it’s a coincidence that this slave-owning crime lord who keeps women on actual chains and humiliates them for his own entertainment and then subjects them to a brutal death when he gets bored with them is portrayed as a literal giant slimy slug? Or maybe the message is that doing things like that is revolting.
Don’t be Jabba. Don’t encourage others to be Jabba. Do not tolerate it when someone you know is Jabba. Find your inner Jabba and strangle the everliving fuck out of him, and help your friends do the same.
You know, I don’t talk about it much, but I actually have a lot of feelings about Han and Leia’s relationship in Return of the Jedi, specifically how Han does things like apologize to Leia for being impatient with her when she’s upset and promise to step aside and not be a dick about it when he thinks she’s in love with another man.
And we hear all about Han’s character development from a rotten scoundrel who would shoot Greedo firstsecond at the same time to a hero who helps save the day, but I think his progression from the ‘I don’t care about nothing or nobody’ mercenary of ANH to the tough guy trying to hide just how much he really does care of ESB to this genuinely loving person in RotJ is even more fantastic.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more the way the Star Wars saga overall portrays its men being men just makes me really happy.
Ok I need help. Taran is about 5 lbs from where we want him to be - and he’s been a bit on the small side his whole life. However he’s lost weight the past two months and we can feel his pelvis and spine a bit more than what I’m comfortable with.
The problem is he won’t eat….
Archie does the same thing. It’s like he doesn’t realise he’s hungry until he’s had something to eat first. (Of course, Archie’s about 15lbs from where I want him, not just 5.)
German Shepherds can just be picky eaters like that, it is often a breed characteristic that they will keep themselves lean and not overeat, but at the same time the first thing I would personally do with a dog that won’t eat consistently is take it to the vet and have a full blood panel done to make sure there isn’t a reason behind his pickiness.
This would also be the point where I ask what sort of bowel motions he has, how often he goes, whether he ever goes in the house, what colour/consistency/odour they have, because that sort of thing can be relevant to GI tract issues.
Then again, maybe he just isn’t interested in the food you’re offering.
What do you feed?
That’s exactly his problem. He takes a bit and then licks the bowl clean.
Poop wise he’s good. Firm to soft, but not loose. Good color (brown) and no abnormal odor. He normally goes 3 times a day its usually in the morning when he gets up, and after he eats both meals. However since he’s not been eating he’s only going once or twice.
We were just at the vet and she’s who told us that it wasn’t just slow growing, but that he’s underweight. We have the same problem as Archie because Taran is just so fluffy and poofy that he looks massive. I’ll definitely remember to ask the vet about a blood panel the next time we’re there.
We feed Taste of the Wild. We were on the bison feed, but just switched to lamb this yesterday to see if it was a flavor issue. We did try a Blue Buffalo Wilderness sample (my brother works at Petco and got it for us for cheap) and he didn’t even touch it.
The weird thing is we have the IQ ball treat toy and he’ll gladly eat his kibble out of that until he loses interest. Generally we try to remind him he’s hungry with the IQ ball and then give him his dinner. We have some good days and he’ll eat a full 3 cups and then others he maybe eats 1 cup. Its so frustrating
Well, like I said, my first port of call is always the vet to make sure nothing’s wrong. I mean, Archie was exactly the same for years. He just had the occasional bout of diarrhoea. And I mean occasional. Maybe once a fortnight, ONE stool was loose. The rest were fine. It turned out he was slowly starving to death because when he ate, he couldn’t digest anything. And the undigested food passing through his GI tract probably caused him quite severe stomach pain, which was why he was never interested in eating in the first place, though really he might have been extremely hungry all along.
Taran may just be bored with his food, though.
Archie is also fed Taste of the Wild. I order four bags at a time, each one different (Bison, Lamb, Salmon and Duck), open them all at the same time, put them in different coloured airtight bins, and then just feed him a different flavour at every single meal to try and prevent food boredom.
He also gets a 400g tin of wet food mixed with his kibble at every meal. There are 3 different flavours, and like with the Taste of the Wild, I switch so he never has the same flavour two meals in a row.
In this fashion, Archie eats 4 cups of kibble + 800g of tinned food daily, and I still struggle to keep weight on him.
(His tinned food is completely grain free, preservative free, and free of artificial colours, etc. It is essentially just a pate of meat and vegetables.)
I know they say don’t change your dog’s food too often, but Archie never gets stomach upsets on this diet and he also doesn’t get bored.
That’s a really good point. We’ll definitely make sure to get him looked at during his next visit. And do a full blood panel soon. I’ll also keep an eye on his poops - make sure I know if they get far from normal.
And keeping different flavors on hand is a good idea to keep them from getting food bored. That’s a really good idea. I’ll keep you posted with how things go - thank you!!
Normally as long as it the same brand you can change flavors without issues unless your dog is super sensitive. Merlin can sometimes be sensitive and he changes flavors every meal. I do add a spoonful of pumpkin at dinner to help with digestion just in case. And he really likes pumpkin.
Oh my gosh I totally forgot about pumpkin. Taran LOVES that stuff. If it wasn’t midnight I’d go get some right now.
Main reason I like to bounce writing ideas off people: like with cryptography, an individual can only write a plot as complex as their own intelligence level. You can’t create a code you can’t break and you can’t write a plot you can’t guess the outcome of.

Ok lets do this! This took way too long for me to figure out because I haven’t read for fun in over 2 years - damn you nursing school.
1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - I read them all in a little over 3 weeks in middle school. My greatest accomplishment
2. The Chronicles of Narnia - my brother and I read through them together
3. The Great Gatsby
4. Bloody Jack - this girl is one of my favorite heroines and I don’t know why she isn’t more popular because she’s badass.
5. Revenge of the Sith novelization by Matthew Stover (OMG MATTHEW STOVER MAKES ME HAVE ALL THE FEELINGS - don’t judge you know you love it.)
7. Peter Pan - i was in the play in middle school and I had a HUGE crush on Jeremy Sumpter when the movie came out
8. The Black Stallion my husband’s name is Alec Ramsey. You don’t get to live out your child fantasy more than that.
9. Misty of Chincoteague - I wanted to live there and have a pony so badly
10. A Grief Observed - one of my favorite CS Lewis books
“Then there is the case of Mara Jade Skywalker. Probably the most prominent EU female character and possible most prominent EU character period. Mara Jade was a great character and worked great as a foil to Luke Skywalker. The way her character was taken in Sacrifice (by one of my favorite authors) didn’t work for me and didn’t seem proper for the character. If you re-read the Hand of Thrawn duology and the subsequent EU the defining characteristic of the relationship between Luke and Mara is the depth of their love and total naked knowledge of each other. To think that Mara would go off to chase down Jacen without Luke or even discussing it with him first was simply insane and out of character to me.”—So true - http://lightsaberrattling.blogspot.com/2012/05/gender-and-star-wars-expanded-universe.html (via anythingtomakeyoustay)
